Cryoskin and Abs
A Google search for “toned abs” yielded over 22 million hits. That’s about how many people and organizations want to give you advice on how to make your abs look better. But toned abs are not as easy to get as advertisers might have you believe. Exercise machine vendors and so-called weight loss experts may claim you can target different areas of your body for fat reduction. Don’t believe it. There are no foods, diets, or exercises that specifically reduce belly fat. There are fat reduction techniques for targeting problem areas, however, and this week I want to look at cryoskin for abs.
No Miracle Cures
If you lose enough weight, your waist will probably become slimmer. But it may not be the first area to do so, and it may not shrink as fast as you want. It’s true you can tone your abs with specific exercises. Toning may improve their appearance somewhat, but you really can’t get spectacular abdominals unless you reduce the amount of fat in your body.
Rather than look for a miracle cure for your flabby waistline, take a systematic approach. Reduce your body fat through diet and tone your muscles with strength training. Then, when you subsequently remove excess fat using the Cryoskin process, you will get a more permanent result.
Three Steps
1. Diet. There’s no mystery here. Because we measure energy expenditure and food intake in the same units, the equation is brutally simple:
calories in = calories out + excess fat
So the first step to reducing fat anywhere on your body is to track both the calories you take in and the calories you burn, including your BMR, or basal metabolic rate. (BMR is the calories you burn doing nothing, and there are a number of places on the web that will help you calculate it.) If the calories you burn are greater than the calories you take in, you will begin to lose fat.
2. Toning. There are resources all over the web for exercises that will tone your abs. We found a good routine at Livestrong, complete with photos to show you the proper technique. None of the exercises requires equipment. It shouldn’t take too much effort or too many weeks to get your core muscles in shape, which will tone your abs. Try the Livestrong workout or one of the others on offer. Just pick a workout routine that you can stick with and follow it consistently.
3. Cryoskin. Finally, with your body fat at a healthy percentage, and your abs well toned, remove the excess fat in your belly with targeted Cryoskin sessions. The Cryoskin 3.0 wand is very precise and can target specific areas of your body.
Cryoskin for Abs
Cryoskin 3.0 is a cryolipolysis process that we offer here at Peak. Full disclosure: there is another cyrolipolysis process out there called CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting has a greater market presence, but I don’t recommend it. This post from May 2019 explains my reasoning.
Cryoskin works because the intracellular electrolytes of the fat cells are the first to crystallize in very cold temperatures. By regulating the temperature precisely, the Cryoskin 3.0 wand is able to crystallize fat cells without damaging skin, muscle, or nerve tissue. The crystallized cells die and then are flushed out gradually through blood, lymph, and ultimately urine. The best results appear 15 days to three weeks after the first session. That is how long it takes the body to naturally remove all the dead cells. In fact, for multiple sessions, you are advised to allow 15 days between them, so as not to overload the lymphatic system.
But many people see a difference in the first session. This is because the cryoskin process encourages the production of collagen, which firms skin and provides a toned look. If you have already flattened your stomach somewhat with diet and exercise, the results could be extraordinary.
